De Houtkern arose from my years of experience in various furniture makers and interior construction companies, both at home and abroad. Ever since I was a child, I had a passion for making furniture and creating home interiors. But in addition to this beautiful craft, I also had a great interest in people as an individual, especially the vulnerable within society attracted my attention. As the years passed, I saw that there was a great need for help and support for this group of people. That is why I decided to take the step and follow a higher professional education course to become a social worker, which I successfully completed in 2019. As a social worker and furniture maker, I worked during my studies on a new concept that combines the furniture industry and care. I wanted to use my passion for the craft of furniture making and apply it to help people. De Houtkern has undergone wonderful development since 2018. The company has grown into a team with a co-owner and two dedicated staff members, bringing our manpower to four people. We do not sit still and work every day on the growth and development of our company. At De Houtkern we have developed a special logo that symbolizes both passions. The logo consists of a cross-section of a tree, with the annual rings showing the experiences and development of life. The cracks show that life on the outside can sometimes be difficult, but if we go to the core, we understand the damage better or even less so. The leaf represents new life, new creations, new experiences and opportunities. At De Houtkern, furniture, people and social work come together. We strive to create unique pieces of furniture that are not only functional and aesthetic, but also have a deeper meaning for those who use them
