The Project
This project involved transforming the interior design concept for a new home into a set of 3D files optimised for manufacturing. In collaboration with one of Cutr’s trusted manufacturers, Beemsterboer Interieur, Cutr was able to reduce the overall cost of production by 30% to achieve a beautiful final product within the customer’s budget.
How Cutr helped
- Optimising designs for production
- Consulted on finishing tips and tricks
- Managed the project to a strict timeline and budget
- Coordinated with sub-contractors
- Maintained quality control throughout the build
- Sourced the production partner: Beemsterboer Interieur
Design should not be limited by practicalities, it should be enhanced by a deep understanding of the customers desires, and the opportunities to achieve these through manufacturing. This customer came to Cutr with a beautiful concept design for their new family home just out of Amsterdam. At this point, the house construction was almost finished and they were preparing to welcome a fleet of subcontractors in to begin laying the floors, painting, wallpapering and installing the kitchen. At the end of their build process, the customer had a specific budget remaining for the custom joinery needed to prepare the home for their desired move in date.
Their wish list included:
- An entry cabinet with coat hanging to be installed in collaboration with their marble subcontractor
- A 4m long upholstered built-in bench with hidden storage underneath
- Custom drawers and a kids study nook to be built around the fireplace
- Display shelves in the living room with custom wallpaper backing and bronze edging details
- Two children’s wardrobes - one with a cosy built-in reading nook and one with cabinet doors hiding an extra storage room
- A double sided walk-in-wardrobe with a vanity nook and bronze glass detailing
- Custom wall panelling detailing for the master bedroom and a ‘floating’ bedside table set
Cutr’s first task was to standardise the components where possible to optimise for material usage. Through this optimised nesting and unifying material selections, we were able to reduce the overall material costs by 23%.
For such a custom project, with no two pieces the same, it was critical that Cutr collaborate with the right partner for production. Beemsterboer, a manufacturer in the industry for 40 years, who had already proven their quality and attention to detail as a longstanding partner - was chosen. Beemsterboer prides itself in their ability to partner on design and production optimisations- Their eagerness to always be improving and continually deliver only the best quality was a defining criteria when selecting the right partner for this project.
Whilst Cutr was able to do a first pass at taking the design from concept to files more suitable for production, Beemsterboer, with their industry knowledge and skills specifically in interior construction, were able to deliver a finalised set of technical drawings and production files suited specifically for their tried and tested manufacturing methods.
This process involved:
- Two site visits - one to understand the project in its entirety and take preliminary measurements, and a follow up check measure once all the flooring and wall finishings were
- Cutr and Beemsterboer marking up a drawing set to get to a finalised set for manufacturing
- Sign-off from the customer to ensure everyone is happy with what is being produced
The Final result
The team at Beemsterboer produced and installed multiple beautiful cabinets and interior furniture items. With the help of Cutr, we were able to coordinate installation between multiple subcontractors to ensure the project came together as seamlessly as possible. The result is the execution of a high-end interior design concept and a very happy customer.
